The Many Causes of Hip Pain
hip joint
Hip pain is one of the most common orthopedic complaints and can arise from a wide variety of causes — many of which do not require surgery. The hip joint is a ball-and-socket joint that bears significant weight during everyday activities such as walking, climbing stairs, and getting up from a chair. When the joint or the surrounding structures become injured or diseased, pain and functional limitations can develop rapidly. At the practice of Dr. Scott Eskildsen, board-certified orthopedic surgeon in Raleigh, NC, we evaluate and treat all forms of hip pain — whether your discomfort originates from the hip joint itself, the surrounding muscles and tendons, or even a referred source such as the lumbar spine. Patients throughout the Triangle area, including Cary, Apex, and Holly Springs, are welcome to schedule an evaluation.
back
A common source of hip pain can be related to your back. Patients with pinched nerves from there back can often feel pain in their hip even without any pain in their back at all.
bursitis
Another common area of pain is the outside of the hip. This area can cause pain while walking or sleeping on your side. Often this can be treated with physical therapy or an injection.
